New Type Of Motor Helps Home Appliances Save Energy
There are any number of electric motors in your house; just open up any appliance and look inside. Even your DVD player and your hand mixers use motors. All these domestic motors run on electricity.
There are three commercially available electric motors. The most common is the Universal, or Brush, motor. With high torque and variable speed, they work well for vacuum cleaners or drills. Induction motors have no brushes and run silently. They are single-speed and very durable and are used in pumps or refrigerators; anywhere you need constant pressure. The new motors on the market have all of these qualities: they operate at variable speeds, have high torque and they are silent and reliable.
We are familiar with the presence of micro controllers in control panels, like the dashboard of our car. We are now starting to see them in the motors that these panels control, as well. As we find it more and more important to work within the ecology of the planet, it becomes increasingly important that our motors are efficient, quiet and simple. The new electric motors provide all of that.
Variable speed is a must in high torque applications like drills, vacuum cleaners or even a Poulan chainsaw. By varying the speed, power efficiency can be increased by as much as 30 percent. The designers can also make the units smaller, lowering their price in the market.
For large motors, like those used in washing machines, the microcontrollers are not a viable solution. The controllers are just too expensive. Instead, these motors are built with the new permanent magnet technology. They run at variable speeds, they run quietly, they don't produce much waste heat and they save energy. They save water, too!
Permanent magnet motors are becoming increasingly attractive. They use less copper and steel in their construction, an important point in these resource poor times. The ups and downs of the commodities market will not have as much effect on the price of these motors. In fact, their growing popularity in applications ranging from automobiles to cellular phones has driven overall prices down.
They won't work in every appliance: your Homelite chainsaw, for example, will probably always run on gas. But this motor will make an appearance in many other places, like drills and refrigerators. They have the high torque and multiple speeds of traditional brush motors combined with the silent sturdy build of the brushless motors. A match made in heaven!
brushless motor on stampede?
i was thinkin bout puttin a brushless motor and brushless speed control on my electric stampede but i was wondering if this would give me any speed or power increase or do i need a special battery to give me a signifigant speed or power increase. and wut wood b the best brushless motor to buy
i would suggest that you buy several 3000 mah batteries and a novak brushless system. it will eat up smaller batteries very fast. it will make your truck need a wheelie bar, that is the torqueand speed increase, which is quite substantial. a normal battery will give the same, but for a shorter time, as it will go dead quite fast. btw, i would suggest venom batts. possibly 4600 mah if they are within ur budget. they run about $50 - $60 a piece as the 3000's run about $25.
