New Cars That Can Learn
Japan has long been world renowned for being at the cutting edge of technology and frequently produces innovative concepts that have later filtered down into the mass-markets.This is no more apparent than in their car technology, which is often adopted all over the world and is considered second to non by many experts. They have now upped their game even further however by creating an integrated car system that uses 'intelligent technology', and it has already caught the eye of many off the car industries big hitters.
Microchips are nothing new in cars, powering things like traction control, ABS and navigation systems to name just a few.A while ago new technology arrived on the scene that had self-monitoring abilities beyond just being able to tell how much fuel it had left or if a car door was left open. They could now report on tire pressures, chassis forces, multicore cables and even road surface conditions. The company in Japan known as Copal Electronics have taken the micro chip to the next level however and using new solenoids technology developed a car that can not only look after itself but can learn. If the car is driven around a corner in the wet at 30mph for example, and the rear wheels slide out, the car will note the road surface condition, speed, tire pressures, corning angle, weight of the car and many other factors and then make very subtle changes to things such as the circuit breakers sensitivity so that the same does not happen again.
Because the technology learns as soon as you start driving the car, it will become accustomed to different drivers techniques and habits and will even be able to preempt mistakes, claim the inventors.The big car producers will want to run their own tests on the technology before they start incorporating it into their cars, but most experts believe it will go mainstream within 5 years.
Is it Illegal to NOT run TPMS sensors?
In the USA, what is the legality of not running TPMS sensors in my winter tire set on a newer car that has a TPMS system? Specifically, I'm asking if not having the sensors gives auto insurance an easy out if something happens.
On the federal level removing the TPMS sensors from the wheels or installing wheels that lack TPMS sensors is not considered "disabling the system". As long as the TPMS warning light still comes on you are legal.
However, in states with mandated safety inspections your car may not pass if the sensors are not installed.
From an insurance standpoint I don't know if there is a precedent, but you don't want to be the one to set it either.
New Hands-On Impressions Of Max Payne 3 (Game Informer)
We've seen Rockstar's Max Payne 3 at a few points in its development. Now,
with the game's May 15 release date drawing near, Rockstar stopped by the Game
Informer offices to give us our first hands-on playable demo of the game.
If you've missed our previous coverage on the game, here's a brief primer: Max
Payne 3 is set several years after the events of Max Payne 2. The intervening
years have not been kind to Max, who left the NYPD in disgrace and has fallen
into alcoholism. Through a former colleague, Raul Passos, Max makes his way to
Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he begins working in the shadowy world of private
security for the local scion Rodrigo Branco. Predictably, everything goes to
hell when Comando Sombra, a paramilitary-style gang, kidnaps Branco's wife,
Fabiana. Max is tasked with bringing her back, and the result is a whole lot
of gunplay.
While this is the first Max Payne game internally developed by Rockstar, the
company hews closely to the formula that Remedy created with the first two
